The boys’ basketball team (1-0) will be playing its first home game on Friday at 7:15 p.m. against Garland’s Naaman Forest High School.

“I am expecting a victory of course,” head basketball coach Danny Melton said. “You know we look at every game film for any game that we play and just see the things that we need to work on and and thinking that maybe we didn’t do so well and look to improve on those.”

The team has been getting ready for this game since practice began weeks ago as it’s only their second game of the season.

“We prepared by watching a lot of film,” Melton said. “Practicing really hard over the last week. Our first game was Saturday so we’ve had all week to prepare.”

With a week between games, players are ready to finally get back on the court against a team other than their own.

“I expecting a lot of effort from our guys,” junior Zac Watson said. “It’s our first home game and we’ve been going against each other in practice so we’re kinda sick of beating up on each other and we’re ready to get on the court, so I’m expecting a lot of energy.”

The team as already seen Naaman Forest in a scrimmage, and they are using what they learned from that game to their advantage.

“We’ve already seen what they do, we’ve watched film on them so we’re really prepared to beat them mentally and take them out of their game,” Watson said.

Operating with a defensive mindset, the team is looking to use its strengths to take out it’s opponent.

“We know that they can shoot the ball well but we’ll win the game if we do things right defensively and mentally,” junior Jadyn Bennett said. “We’re going to one-up them strictly through our defense because we’re a big defensive team and if we have things going for us defensively then our offense will kick in automatically.”
