Say it Louder: giving more during the holidays

The Student Council Toy Drive has been extended to Dec. 13. Why? To try to get more toys. With more than 2,000 students on campus, just 10-15 toys have been collected in more than a week. Of course, this is much better than Monday when there were zero toys in the collections boxes. If we can get 10-15 in just a day, think about how much we could do before next Wednesday.

Although it is a bit unrealistic, if every single student donated just one toy, we would have more than 2,000 toys. That would mean more 2,000 sick children would have a slightly brighter holiday because someone else thought enough to made. With all the lights and festivities we sometimes forget to think about the true meaning of the holidays. Most people who are privileged enough to live here in Frisco usually receive some sort of gifts during the holiday season, but that is not the case for everybody.

When you have the luxury of celebrating the holiday season with gifts, it is right to give back to those who do not (which is a lot more than you may think). If we could just spend a little time to donate just a single toy, we could make a child’s entire day. A simple act of kindness could change someone’s mood.

Whether it be donating to the toy drive or giving back in any way, you should offer your donations in some way, shape or form. The holiday season is a time to express thanks and love; especially to those who don’t receive enough.
