Holiday songs to fill auditorium Thursday night
December 8, 2016
The sounds of Christmas will fill the auditorium Thursday starting at 7 p.m. as choir holds its winter concert.
“I feel the students are well prepared for the concert and are enthusiastic about it,” choir director Bruce Stevenson said. “We’ll be singing a wide range of music, and that always makes for a better concert.”
This concert will have a multitude of genres performed, ranging from Christmas inspired songs to classical melodies.
“Everyone has been working hard in class and rehearsals to give the songs themselves justice,” junior choir student Andrea Cobos said.
For senior Emily Swinea, Thursday’s performance will be something special.
“It means a lot because it’s my last concert. I have been doing choir since sixth grade and it has been one of the best things in my life,” Swinea said. “I have put in so much effort throughout the years and given it my all and this concert will not be any different. I’m looking forward to it, but am sad it’s my last Christmas concert.”
Rehearsing for Thursday’s concert since October, Stevenson constantly preaches the importance of practice and to enjoy the moment.
“I always tell the students that I am proud of them and thankful for their preparation,” Stevenson said. “I always encourage them to make the concert memorable for the audience and themselves by singing to the very best of their ability, and by relying on their preparation. I always remind them that they’re a special breed of musician and remind them to have fun, to cherish these moments of making music for others’ enjoyment.”
