Say it Louder: choir deserves better than the silent treatment

I have been in choir for as long as I can remember, so it’s always been a priority and therefore a big deal in my life. These past couple years have been very different from what I’m used to with this high school choir experience. In middle school choir and even in elementary school I feel as though choir got more recognition than it does now which should, in my opinion, be the other way around.

Choir in high school is a more serious deal than middle or elementary school. By taking high school choir you’re basically saying you’re considering a career in music or even just want music to be a part of your future life in some way. That being said, choir should get just as much recognition as band, orchestra or theatre.

When theatre has a play or band/orchestra has a concert, it is pretty well known and announced. When choir has one, however, nobody has an idea. I was once talking to my friend about it and she even asked me “Wait, Liberty has a choir?”

Concerts are generally pretty empty besides a couple groups of parents here and there. We start working on our music months before the actual concert, so it’s a bit of a let down to work on something for so long to have nobody watch it.

It’s nobody’s fault that this happens, it’s just not many people know about our choir in general, let alone when concerts and events are. Choir and its concert dates should be more advertised so more people know about what we do. The WTV Daily Update did its part by having Thursday’s concert as part of its announcements, now it’s time for the rest of the school to pay attention.
