2018-19 preliminary attendance zones released
Retaining its status as the fastest growing school district in the state, the opening of 4 new schools next fall brings back another round of rezoning.
The schools were expected to open this year, but budget considerations have the schools vacant this year.
At Monday’s board meeting, the district presented its initial plan for next year’s rezoning.
The biggest change on the high school level will be the opening of Memorial High School which will take students from Heritage, Wakeland and Lone Star.
The attendance zone for Liberty is expected to stay the same, but the opening of Lawler Middle School will provide relief for Vandeventer Middle School.
The zones released Monday are preliminary with public hearings to receive feedback on the proposed zones coming in November with the school board expected to approve attendance zones in December.
With 58-thousand students in the district this year, enrollment projections estimate there will be 70-thousand students by 20-24.
