Wingspan: How long have you been running cross country and what got you started?

Holden: “I’ve been running cross country for the past two years. I also ran in seventh and eighth grade but i got into high school because I wanted to try something new and my parents wanted me to run for the past four years but I finally started doing it junior year.”

Wingspan: How do you prepare before a meet?

Holden: “I prepare before a meet by eating a good meal the night before and getting at least eight hours of sleep, I also roll out and stretch my legs the  night before and I go on a recovery run the day before with my team.”

Wingspan: What is the biggest challenge you face during a race?

Holden: “The biggest challenge would be how nervous I get, because at the beginning of the race they have a gunshot and it just always makes me really nervous.”

Wingspan: How were you and the team feeling going into Regionals?

Holden: “The team and I were very excited to go to regionals and we really wanted to win or at least get a high place so that we can make it to state, and we ended up doing that.”

Wingspan: When will State take place and how are you preparing?

Holden: “State takes place November 4th and I am preparing by being on a strict diet for these next two weeks (eating healthy, getting a good amount of sleep, stretching, and taking ice baths.”

Wingspan: Is there any added pressure at state considering this will be the team’s third year in a row?

Holden: “Yes there is added pressure this year at state because we lost a few runners that helped out the team last year but I still think we can do good this year because we gained runners that have helped immensely.”

Wingspan: Favorite part about being a part of the team?

Holden: “That everybody is treated so well and nobody’s ever left out on the team. We always have a lot of fun whenever we hang out whether it be team dinners or freshman kidnapping. Also, during practices everyone pushes each other and cheers each other on as well as in meets.”
