Band hosts fourth annual trunk or treat
October 30, 2017
Heading into it’s fourth year, the annual Trunk or Treat event will be hosted by the school’s band on Monday at 6 p.m. in the southeast parking lot. This event focuses on building a stronger community for young students planning on attending the school.
“It’s really a community involvement exposure opportunity,” band director Jamie Weaver said. “We started this four years ago and it will never ever be a fundraiser, just something for the community, younger kids to come by and get their first taste of liberty.”
The event started out a bit different in its first year, but has transformed into an event people look forward to.
“We were getting ready to go into a contest and we had rehearsal scheduled for Halloween,” Weaver said. “So we invited people to come listen to them perform a run through, and then went to the trunks and it just blossomed out of there.”
Starting with just band, Trunk or Treat has extended to majority of the clubs and organizations at the school hosting a trunk.
“I like the fact it has so many organizations now,” Weaver said. “I like the fact that it has so many little kids involved, it’s a culmination of all the things we teach, that relationships are more important than trophies.”
Students participating are excited to see what the night brings.
“Tonight I’ll be helping out with FCA’s trunk or treat car and we’ll pass out candy to all the kids,” FCA leader Lindsey Liles said. “It’s fun to show our support for the community and show the creativeness in all of the trunks from the clubs.”
