Future Farmers of America students were named district champions at their last competition, and will be advancing to the area level.

The competition includes several categories, and the school’s teams advanced in three areas: public relations, agricultural advocacy, and creed speaking.

“I’m just super proud of them,” agricultural science teacher Julie Anderson said. “We have a very competitive district with all of Allen, McKinney, Plano, Frisco, Celina, and Prosper. [There are] all of these powerhouse schools, and they came out on top.”

In two of the competitions, participants were required to give a presentation about why FFA should be covered in media outlets and answer a series of questions after their presentation.

“This is my last year in FFA, so it meant a lot to compete with friends,” senior Hailey Middleton said. “We practiced every week, either during advisory, before school, and during the weekends.”

While excited over their success so far, FFA hasn’t faltered in their practice for the upcoming competition. Their area competition will be Nov. 13 in Bells, Texas, where they will compete with over 1700 other FFA members.

“We all worked really hard and practiced a lot, so that we could advance to area,”  junior Jordan Miller said. “We are gonna practice more and work on perfecting everything, so that hopefully we can advance to state.”
