Professional practice for ISM students
Students from four Frisco high schools will take part in ISM Business Symposium
October 9, 2015
ISM students will get the chance to show off what they have learned thus far at the district’s ISM Business Symposium Friday at Independence High School.
“The very first day of school, we started prepping for this event,” ISM director Brian Wysong said. “Through assignments, through practice, exercises, and drills, basically what a Professional Communications class would do in an entire semester, we did in a week.”
The symposium, with ISM students from four Frisco ISD high schools, will connect students with one another and with professionals around the area in a series of networking sessions.
“Business professionals from all around Dallas/Fort Worth, from all different industries, have been invited,” Wysong said. “The ISM students go to do mock interviews, to network, and during the networking time they shake hands with professionals and talk about their field of study.”
By meeting and interacting with successful people in a multitude of different careers, ISM students will be able to exchange valuable insight on what steps to take and how to be stronger candidates for job options.
“For students, it’s a learning opportunity,” Wysong said. “It provides an opportunity for professionals to give critiques on how to be professional, critiques on their resume, critiques on interviewing skills and how they answer those interview questions.”
ISM students have been conditioning themselves to perfect their interviewing and speaking routines and the symposium will be their time to showcase their talents.
“I’m excited to network with a lot of people,” senior ISM student Isabella Dalmacio said. “It will strengthen my etiquette and expose me to professionals.”
The inclusion of ISM students from Independence, Heritage and Centennial at the symposium will also allow students to develop connections with one another.
“It allows the kids to come together and build camaraderie, it’s almost like a fraternity,” Wysong said. “You come together with the people who are in the same organization as you and you build relationships, ask questions, and sharpen one another to make each other better.”
