Finishing off a successful season, the girls’ soccer is headed to playoffs after sealing a third place spot in District 13-5A with Thursday’s a 3-3 tie against the Heritage Coyotes. Taking the field next Thursday, the Redhawks will face the Mckinney North Bulldogs in the first round of playoffs.

“It definitely had some highs and lows but man the girls fought to the nail,” head coach Elizabeth Mokler said. “We kind of went on a losing streak for a little while but the girls rallied back and it was amazing. It’s been that adrenaline nail biting type season, but that’s what makes it fun.”

Despite a rough patch in the season, the team is proud of what they have accomplished in the end.

“I think it went really well, the team improved a ton throughout the season and we stayed in the top four the whole time,” sophomore Katie Stoker said. “So that was really good. Playoffs was our goal at the beginning of the season, so I’m very excited.”

With district play complete, the dynamic of the team is now stronger than ever.

“We have grown very close as a team,” freshman Kallin Brown said. “We play well together and being able to string together passes and just find each other’s feet and that has really helped us this season.”

Reflecting back on some of the season’s difficult games, Mokler is proud of her athletes and how they’ve grown as a team.

“What I learned about the girls is just how much tenacity they have,” Mokler said. “They’re just so good. We always worry about teenage kids not being resilient or being able to pick back up after a defeat, but they have time and time again, so I’ve just been really inspired by them and hopefully I’ve inspired them too.”
