Rezoning for new schools on Monday’s FISD agenda
Attendance within the Frisco ISD is expected to continue to increase in the next few years, meaning if the district wants to stick to its philosophy of smaller schools, new schools must open each year to keep the numbers where the district wants them.
With the population of Frisco hitting 150,000 and nearly 50,000 students attending schools within the district, four new campuses opened this year and four more are scheduled to open in the twenty sixteen school year with drafts of newly drawn attendance zones to be presented at the board meeting scheduled for tonight.
“This is the challenge. This is the success of Frisco ISD but it is also the challenge of Frisco ISD,” FISD Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Lyon said in a September rezoning forum. “It’s why it’s the thing that holds it all together. It’s the consistency of high quality programming, the consistency of opportunity for students, regardless of the school your child goes to.”
Schools such as Lebanon Trail High School and Nelson Middle School are just a couple of the schools expected to open in the 2016 school year.
“Students that come to Lebanon Trail will have every opportunity that they would have at any other high school in Frisco,” Lebanon Trail principal Devin Padavil said in the September rezoning forum. “But more that that, we know the primary purpose of a high school is an outstanding academic experience. It is my mission that we get that done.”
Following Lebanon Trail High School, Memorial High School is expected to open in 2017 with two more high schools expected to open in following years.
Along with this on Nov. 9, there will be public hearing on the proposed rezoning with a decision expected from the school board on Dec. 14.
