Battling the incoming storm as well as Frisco High, the tennis fell short in its bid to capture the Area Championship losing 10-9 in a match that finished inside at Lifetime Fitness. Despite the loss, the team still advanced to the Regional Tournament Oct. 30-31 for the first time in school history.

“We fought hard and played through some injuries,” head tennis coach Erica Dopson said. “I am proud of the team for fighting until the end. I definitely see a few things we can work on to prepare for Regionals.”

Although players were hopeful to add the Area Championship to their District 9-5A championship, they feel good about where they are.

“We feel pretty confident going into region because we have been doing really great so far and we’re more united as a team this year,” junior Julia Hwang said. “Every year we’re getting better and stronger as a team. Our hard work has really paid off and our qualifications for regionals shows it.”

The team will find out its Regional opponent after a meeting Thursday. In the meantime, it’s back to work.

“We need to rest and recover,” Dopson said. “Come Monday we will focus on some doubles strategies and execution of points. Only one team advances to State so we must go into Regionals laying everything we have out with each match.”
