In 2018, the Redhawks faced off the Trail Blazers, in a showdown that began the rivalry. In their match Friday, the two teams are facing off to defend their undefeated positions.

A 17th win in a row wasn’t in the cards as Lebanon Trail beat the Redhawks 3-0 in the final District 9-5A match Tuesday night, ending the team’s 16 game winning streak.

“It was a rotten night and I’m hopeful we’ll bounce back with some determination for our Bi-District match on Monday night,” head volleyball coach Ui Womble said via email. “I thought Lebanon Trail played very well. We got off to a good start and then got stuck in a rotation and lost too many points in a row; tough to climb out of a hole when the other team has momentum.”

Losing the first two sets by two points (26-24, 25-23), the Redhawks lost the third set 25-14 leading junior Jenna Wenaas and her teammates hoping to bounce back during the playoffs that start on Monday.

“We did really well in the beginning and then started to struggle,” Wenaas said via text. “I think they played really well and at the same time we had an off game; the loss will encourage us to work even harder.”
