Facing off against Mansfield Timberview in Friday’s season opener, the girls’ basketball team took on Prosper in a scrimmage Monday with the Eagles earning the 34-33 win over the Redhawks.

“I think we did really well,” senior Randi Thompson said. “We’ve gotten better as a team and our chemistry is a lot better. I know exactly what each of my teammates are going to do when they get the ball.”

Monday’s scrimmage was the team’s first chance to test themselves against a different opponent before Friday’s season opener.

“I think we did a really great job offensively,” assistant basketball coach Jordan Sarten said. “We were able to work the ball around in our offense, take smart shots, and create things. Overall, I think we did a really great job and we’re all excited to get the season started. It’s going to be a really fun and successful year.”

With the team having several weeks to get ready for the start of District 9-5A play on Nov. 27, senior Mara Casey believes the team still has room for improvement.

“I know that we have the ability to do some things better,” Casey said. “Something that I took away from the game was that we have still have a lot to work on and polish up. It’s still very early in the season though, which is exciting.”
