Valentine’s Day isn’t for everyrone

Valentine’s Day can be filled with things such as teddy bears and candy given to significant others. It’s a day designed to show love for those in your life that are important to individuals.

Everywhere you go, there something to remind people that it’s Valentine’s Day but, to a 14 or 15 year old who isn’t allowed to date, what does this holiday really mean?

A major reason why one doesn’t date is because of the obstacle known as parents. This could be for a variety of reasons. Maybe they don’t want you to get hurt, or get distracted from school, or maybe it’s cultural. Or maybe the reason is personal and a relationship isn’t for you, but on Valentine’s Day, one can’t help but notice all the infatuated couples.

Most students probably have to wait until after college or until they are 18 to date. Some teenagers have to wait due cultural factors such as one’s religion where dating is considered a misdeed and can only be in a relationship either after their education is complete or not until marriage.

This may be irritating especially on Valentine’s Day where there are smitten couples roaming the hallways, holding hands, gazing into each other’s eyes while you forgot that it was even Valentine’s Day.

Some students might not even care about this commercial holiday and see it as a waste of time and money while others might long for a romantic  relationship.

When someone asks if you’ve ever been in a relationship, and you respond saying “no”, usually their reaction is complete shock or pity. There is no need to be surprised, because dating isn’t an obligation and it isn’t bizarre to not have a significant.

Being single on Valentine’s Day, shouldn’t lead someone to feel upset because Valentine’s Day isn’t only for couples but also to celebrate all types of relationships.

There are many people who are willingly single as there is no need to be in a romantic relationship. So, if you don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend, don’t worry or stress, you’re not the only one.
