Baseball players selected a teacher to join them on the field before Friday’s game. Teachers were given a jersey from their player to wear onto the field before the game and in the case of social studies teacher Jay Sommers, a full uniform. Sommers was chosen by senior pitcher and future University of West Virginia Mountaineers Tim Wynia.

It was Teacher Appreciation Night for the baseball team, but getting a win against the school down the street wasn’t to be.

Tied 3-3 five innings in, the baseball team fell to Centennial 7-3 after the Titans crossed home plate four times, by the end of the sixth inning, costing the Redhawks the game.

“We didn’t play well enough to win,” senior Mitchell Miller said. “It’s hard to pinpoint a main reason, but we were in the game until we let up four runs in one inning and couldn’t recover from that.”

Different score, but same result for the softball team, as the Redhawks fell to the Titans 10-0.

“I think the team played pretty well as a whole,” junior Lauren Ransom said. “It has been tough recently because we have several people out from injuries. Our goal is to just have fun and keep improving from our previous games.”
