Running cross country since seventh grade, senior Ethan Riedl is in his fourth and final year in the sport. For Riedl, he has found his passion in the sport not only for the competition but for the personal connections with his teammates.

Wingspan: How long have you been doing cross country and what got you started?

Riedl: “I have been doing cross country since seventh grade.”

Wingspan: What fuels your passion to run?

Riedl: “The competition.”

Wingspan: What are your goals for this season and how are you working to achieve them?

Riedl: “I want to get a new personal record every meet, and I’m going to achieve it by practicing every day.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite part about being on the team?

Riedl: “The atmosphere in cross country is amazing, we are like a big family.”

Wingspan: Are you planning to continue the sport in the future?

Riedl: “I want to continue to run.”

Wingspan: What makes cross country different from other sports?

Riedl: “Cross country is different than most sports because we are all so connected and we help each other out.”

Wingspan: How do you mentally prepare yourself before a race?

Riedl: “I prepare by eating and sleeping properly.”
