Rather than a typical morning practice, Redhawk volleyball invited parents into the gym on Labor Day to practice with the team, and prepare for the matchup on Friday against Centennial at 5:30 p.m. at home.

“I love parent practice, it’s so fun to see the kids interact with their patents and see the parents interact with their kids, just see them laughing and enjoying time together,” head coach Ui Womble said. “Not everybody in the gym is super athletic, but everybody gives it a try, and it’s always a lot of fun.”

Seeing this practice as a unique way to get reps in the gym, parents look forward to bonding with their kids.

“It is always a lot of fun, just seeing the girls and the parents interact,” volleyball dad Chris Wennas said. “I like that Womble does such a nice job of kind of talking us through everything, and helping everybody feel like they’re a part of something bigger.”

Sophomore Lauryn Hill likes the new outlook it can bring to kids and parents in the gym.

“It was really fun, I like the environment and all of the energy. It kind of just helps us to bond, and we get to tell them what to do, and help them see what we do everyday,” Hill said. “Sometimes when we’re in practice, we’re focused on putting in work and getting it done, but in parent practice, we have more fun and it’s more relaxed.”
