As the boys basketball team travels to Little Elm tonight to continue their winning ways in district, the girls are looking to get back on the winning track after their 47 game district winning streak ended Dec. 8 against Wakeland.

“The bad thing is that even if you’ve only been apart of three games, with the freshman, we all feel invested in the streak,” head coach Ross Reedy said. “It hits all of them differently. Our goals have always been to win district, but we’ve always look for goals beyond that. It doesn’t stop after one individual game. We reboot after every win or loss, and our goal is to be 1-0, and that doesn’t just mean in the games; it includes every rep and breath and executing. Fortunately, we have mature enough kids, that yes, it hurts, but we’re apart of starting something new and plan on starting another streak and who knows how long this one will go. But we really need to rebound tonight.”

The game was decided in the final few possessions with Wakeland winning 52-49.

“Everybody is gunning for you,” Reedy said. “We like to say the target’s on them, not us. But people want to give the team with most success recently their best game. It’s difficult being a team on top. They were ready to play. They outplayed us, and played harder than us. It took us a while to get going, and we acted uncharacteristically at times. When it got time to get going, our kids had character and got us back into the game. We dictated play late in the game. But you have to credit Wakeland.”

Now the team turns their attention to Little Elm, a team that has been another challenger for the district crown. The team is 3-1 in district, with their only loss coming to Wakeland, who was ranked #24 by TABC this week.
“They [Little Elm] are going to be equally as hungry,” Reedy said. “Every time we’ve gone there, it’s been a challenge. They’ve played with a lot of our girls in club and grown up with them, so anytime you have that personal relationship, both groups are going to be eager to play. Both of us are coming off losses against Wakeland. This is an opportunity for both teams to establish themselves and get the ball rolling. They’re gonna be really athletic, and at home, but I anticipate that we will come out there playing with character and in the game, and execute early so we can come out with a win.”
