Cutting down seconds all season, the swim team has been training all year for the District 10-5A championships Friday through Saturday at the Bruce Eubanks Natatorium.

Preliminaries will begin on Friday at 10:00 a.m., as athletes will race for a spot at the finals on Saturday.

School record holder for the 50 freestyle, junior Mallory Showalter hopes to beat her time of 24.51 seconds at the upcoming meet.

“We have been focusing on perfecting our starts, turns, and finishes in practice,” Showalter said. “The girls really want to place first in the 200 medley and 200 free relay and I hope to re-break some of my previous records.”

Preparing to go into the meet with a strong mindset, senior Jainam Manot hopes to qualify for regionals.

“This meet is really important because it is the biggest meet in FISD,” Manot said. “It gives us an opportunity to qualify for regions which is the next meet. It definitely motivates us to do our best and be successful. It makes us want to be successful so I definitely use that for motivation.”
