The tennis team travelled north for the Prosper Tournament Results on Friday, bringing home four medals.

Taking on several 6A teams, junior Luke Blasingame is proud of their success given the competition.

“I thought it went really well,” Blasingame said via text. “We faced much tougher teams compared to other tournaments we’ve played in, and the fact that we were still able to have a high level of success was big. I think this definitely prepared us heading into districts because our district is really tough and we need to be familiar with heavy competition.”

According to head coach Erica Dopson, the tougher competition will help the Redhawks prepare for the district tournament that begins on March 30.

“We had some success in certain draws that help us see where we match up for the Spring district tournament,” Dopson said via email. “We had four teams get medals and did well against district opponents in those draws.”

Taking home 3rd place in the Mixed B with Blasingame, junior Maria Lopez is happy with their performance.

“I think I played actually very well this weekend, I only got to play three matches, but I was very satisfied with the outcome given that my opponents were much better than me,” Lopez said via text. “The first match we played was by far the most grueling for us simply because we played like trash for the majority of it against players that were much worse than us, but luckily we pulled out a comeback win to get us into the second round. The second match was definitely our best, we were both on fire in that match, and the third, we were still on fire but our opponents were just better than us so I wasn’t upset when we lost pretty badly to them. My partner and I ended up getting third place unfortunately by default because one of our opponents had gotten injured, but we probably would’ve gotten third even if he wasn’t. It was a fun and satisfying day for my partner and I.”
