Rarely does a Frisco ISD get the chance to redeem themselves so quickly. But that’s the case for the Redhawks volleyball team as they get set to play Reedy High School Tuesday night, just a few days after losing to the Lions 3-0 on Saturday.

The scheduling quirk comes as a result of Reedy playing three matches with mostly JV players after several varsity players had COVID-19. Reedy lost all three of those matches, including one to the Redhawks, but now they will get to replay them after the district reversed course on its decision to make teams play without varsity players.

“When we saw how much the COVID-19 quarantines affected the teams, we knew that having the teams try to play with younger, less experienced players was not the best thing for the student-athletes,” Frisco ISD said in a statement on the Dallas Morning News website. “We don’t like to make a change in the middle of the season, but we want to do what is best for the kids. Our coaches unanimously agreed that this was the right thing to do and the fair way to handle a situation that has changed throughout the season.”

Tuesday’s match results will replace the results of the original contest, a 3-1 Redhawks win on Sept. 26.

“It’s nice because we played them the other day,” senior Grace Doung said. “We know what to look forward to and it’s fresh on our minds.”

But there’s also a downside as having two games against the same opponent just a few days apart gives the teams minimal time to practice.

‘We have talked a lot about what we have done wrong,” Doung said. “But we’ve only really had one practice to fix our mistakes on the court.”
