For students in AP classes and interested in taking the AP exams, the AP exams fee window is open and closes on Nov. 1. This is also the deadline to request a refund for students who choose not to take the exams.

With the start of the new semester, many students have faced various schedule changes with seniors switching from economics to government classes, or vice versa. But for seniors taking the AP levels of these courses, the challenge for preparing and taking an AP exam over content learned months ago is added with the usual demands of the classes.

“I plan on sending out review material via email, which I will begin sometime around the first of April,” Memorial High School AP Economics teacher Donald White said via email. “Students can also access my YouTube channel where information is available for review. I will update [the channel] with material on the exam and for review, which is now in the works.”

Students such as senior Sufiyan Sabir believe that it will be difficult to relearn information taught months ago in a very short time frame.

“As a student who had AP Government first semester, it’s definitely going to be a factor when it’s time to start preparing for AP exams,” Sabir said. “Especially with a class like AP Government, it’s a very content-driven class and contains a lot of information to memorize. So when you take a break from the course, it can be difficult to relearn all that information in such a short period of time.”

Along with providing review material, White also hopes to coordinate with other teachers across the district to host live study sessions via Zoom.

“I am waiting to hear from the other econ teachers if we are having any joint venture on reviews,” White said. “COVID is the challenge here. If not, I will have some Zoom study halls in April for my students.”

However, White believes that these virtual study sessions will pose many challenges for both teachers and students.

“Students do not have the opportunity to ask direct questions or get close-up interaction with teachers,” White said. “Moreover, in the past Frisco students have had a one day Saturday review day where all the econ teachers gather to review. Getting perspectives from different teachers can be helpful.”
