National Honor Society is holding their second mandatory meeting for members Wednesday and Thursday in the auditorium. “During the NHS meeting we will go over hour requirements for this semester, reintroduce officers, and introduce new FISD hour requirements,” NHS president Reva Kabnurkar said.

As the year comes to a close, NHS requires members to submit their 20 community service hours by Friday at 4:30 p.m. when seniors can also earn their graduation stole.

“Chapter members that are seniors in good standing and have completed all required service hours are given the privilege of wearing an NHS stole at graduation,” NHS sponsor Amber Bennett said.

Graduation stoles will be handed out May 4-5 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the same place where seniors pick up their other graduation cords.

“The NHS stole distinguishes honor students and is an important keepsake that indicates the students’ academic achievement,” Bennett said.

This year, many previous requirements to earn hours were lifted to adhere to COVID restrictions.

Some challenges I experienced while completing my hours were having to go in-person for some volunteering opportunities amidst a pandemic,” senior Soumyaneel Deb Chaudhuri said. “So finding virtual opportunities gave me a decent amount of hours towards my goal of 20 hours.”
