The Redhawks tennis team is looking to keep their hot streak going on Friday at 4 p.m. as they make the short trip to take on the Independence Knights, one of the top teams in the state.

“Independence is ranked #1 in the state and are strong,” head coach Erica Dopson said via email. “We need to have a fight mentality and stay composed throughout the match.”

The team is coming off a win Tuesday when they beat Frisco 14-5.

“We were pretty strong from the beginning,” freshman Hailey Zhang said. “There were only a couple of close matches, but we still ended up winning those.”

Heading into Friday’s match with a District 9-5A record 5-1 record, Zhang says the Redhawks will need to come out fast to beat the undefeated Knights.

“To beat Independence on Friday, we’re probably going to have to start off strong,” she said. “Be confident in what we can do as a team and make sure we’re cheering each other and supporting each other throughout the entire match.”
