Cheer tryouts Thursday
March 1, 2016
Cheerleading tryouts are Thursday, March 3 in the gym and head cheer coach Michelle Stukel knows what she will be looking for in cheer candidates.
“The cheerleading scoresheet is based on tumbling, jumps, cheer (meaning motions, sportsmanship and enthusiasm) chants and the girl’s dance,” Stukel said. “To be honest it just depends on the other cheerleaders trying out and the level of talent. If you come to the tryout and you have strong motions, you’re loud, you’ve got a lot of school spirit and you demonstrate cheerleading skills you should be just fine.”
Some girls are going the extra mile to make sure they get a spot on the team.
“I’m nervous about not making the team and about messing up during tryouts,” freshman Lauren Girdner said. “I’ve been practicing by doing tumbling once a week. I’m doing tumbling after school to help me to be better at tumbling. I don’t really care what team I make but I would rather make varsity because the games are more interesting and you get cooler stuff.”
