For months now, hype around Spider-Man: No Way Home has been building, and adding itself to the buzz is the implication of Venom: Let There Be Carnage’s post-credits scene.

At the end of the Venom sequel, Eddie Brock, along with his symbiote partner, Venom, can be found at a tropical beach resort. In their room, Venom tells Brock of the hive-mind shared by symbiotes across the multiverse when suddenly, a violent, earthquake-like disturbance leaves Brock and Venom in a world like theirs, but different. Instead of being in their own room, the duo find themselves in a room that is similar, yet not the same. Suddenly, a random man appears out of nowhere, wondering why Brock is in his room.

Immediately following, a news story from The Daily Bugle, the same news agency from Spider-Man comics which recently made its appearance at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, as they play a story on how Spider-Man killed mysterio.

This is one of the most important post-credit scenes in Marvel history, as the Sony-owned Venom universe takes place outside of the Disney-owned Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, this multiversal shift that places Venom within the MCU is one of the first signs of the multiversal conflict that is expected to come in the latest Spider-Man and Doctor Strange films.

The crossing of previously separate universes leaves the door open for other franchises, such as Fox’s X-Men films, and other non-MCU marvel films to be mixed together in one greater Marvel universe, a universe that fans will be eager to explore.
