Competing in the 6A TISCA swim invitational meet Nov. 19-20, the Redhawks’ swim team was pushed to do their best playing up a division. Finishing 20th overall with over 600 competitors, Head Coach Nicolas Dion is proud of the team’s finish.

“I feel great, and feel we are right where we need to be,” Dion said. “We had two new school records turned in by Maria Oushalkas, then our five boy representatives had some best times and really good swims while we were there.”

Junior Maria Oushalkas is pleased with her records broken, as she did not let competing up a division stand in her way.

“I think I did really well,” Oushalkas said. “Prelims I broke both records in both the 100 fly and 2 free, and I was able to get second and fourth. And at finals, I broke those records again and got fourth in both of them.”

Breaking records is not something new for Oushalkas, as she was the previous title holder for these events.

“I haven’t been able to break them since the beginning of sophomore year, and I dropped a significant amount of time,” Oushalkas said. “So that actually makes me confident for when state rolls around.”
