Cross country heads to Frisco Warren Park on Friday for the Rock Hill Twilight Invitational; a course the Redhawks know well.

To the athletes, the name of the game is to have fun with this 2-mile night run, but head coach Khera Vay envisions the team finding a starting point to grow from as the season progresses.

“We always attempt to open the season with something different and for this meet, we want to have fun, be supportive, but compete hard,” Vay said. “We are looking for a good benchmark as to where we are physically and mentally when it comes to competition.”

The team has been practicing all summer and feels that they are in much better shape compared to last year. Now, they want to see how they handle themselves against other competition.

Senior Takumi Harumi is ready to set high standards immediately for the rest of the season.

“I’m going to work hard on this course because it’s good practice since it’s similar to our district courses,” Harima said via text. “I’m looking to see if I can keep up with guys from other schools that I wasn’t able to keep up with last year.”
