Redhawk cross country heads to their first 5k of the season on Saturday at Bob Jones Park. Being on of the flattest courses, many athletes feel prepared for the race.

After running two miles in its opening meet, the cross country team is upping its mileage as they run their first 5k at Bob Jones Park on Saturday in the Southlake Carroll Invitational.

“We have a lot of new kids on the girls team, so they’re feeling a little nervous, a little anxious because this will be their first high school competitive 5k but for the boys it’s the opposite, a lot of veterans who are excited to see where they stack up,” coach Ben Manning said. “I just want them to do the best they can, be healthy while they’re at it, and continue that training process for October when it really matters.”

Senior Chance Moore is making sure he takes advantage of the flat yet fast paced course.

“I’m focusing on capitalizing on practices and meets like this as it’s one of the flattest ones we’ll run this year so I want to set myself up well for the rest of the season,” Moore said. “I’m aiming to set around 17:10 or lower, which would be amazing to achieve.”
