During the first round of the volleyball playoffs on Tuesday, junior Brooklyn Shelton hit a milestone of 1000 digs.

“I was so excited for my 1000th dig and very proud of myself,” Shelton said. “I have been working toward this goal since the middle of the season when I first looked at my career stats. I realized that it was achievable this year and I worked to improve my digs count each game.”

Shelton went into Tuesday’s game with 997 digs, and earned 20 more during the game.

“I am so proud of Brooklyn, she is the hardest worker and is so deserving of this recognition,” head coach Eighmy Dobbins said. “From her first day as a Redhawk she has always strived to be the best player she can be, and I’m so excited I get to be a part of her growth and watch her succeed.”

Heading into the second round of playoffs on Friday, Shelton believes this achievement gives her confidence.

“I feel very confident going into the next round knowing that I have come so far,” Shelton said. “I think that it will be important to be proud of my accomplishment but not let it affect my game or mentality.”

Dobbins is impressed with the speed within which Shelton reached the mark.

“Hitting 1,000 digs is a huge milestone for a Libero,” Dobbins said. “Brooklyn hit it really quickly, which is awesome for her and our program. We are lucky to have her.”
