The windows of the rotunda are decorated with fake snow and snowflakes in light of the holiday season. StuCo has been working on decorating the school to create a cozy, wintry atmosphere.

The start of December officially means the beginning of the winter season, and Student Council (StuCo) is ready to start decking the halls with holiday spirit.

“So right now we’re just waiting for supplies to get in,” StuCo president Anna Lyon said. “We’re gonna put lights on railings, frost on windows, and there’s a bunch of other ideas that we’re going through right now so I’m pretty excited to decorate the school.”

Lyon believes putting up winter decorations helps bring students into the school spirit, especially with the upcoming winter formal on Jan. 21.

“We wanted to decorate the school to kinda just bring more spirit and also bring attention to the winter formal which we’re gonna be having,” Lyon said. “We sent out a survey asking students if they wanted to do a winter formal and a lot of people wanted to do it, so we decided to do it. I hope everyone gets excited because we haven’t done one at liberty, so we’re also doing winter decorations as a way to advertise the dance and also appreciate the winter season.”

StuCo leaders have taken the initiative to help bring a cozy atmosphere to the school according to teacher Kandy Stevens.

“Most of the things you see around are student-led, so each season that comes and goes, our student leaders bring up these ideas and execute,” Stevens said. “So for me, turning on the holiday music and what you see around school really helps to put you in the spirit. It also makes a school not so institutionalized, making it more homey and relatable.”

In the past StuCo has kept winter decorations limited to the rotunda, but this year they want to cover the entire school.

“This year we’re going try to hit decoration all over the school rather than just the rotunda which is what we’ve been sticking to in the past,” StuCo member Lily Leyden said. “I think it’s really fun decorating the school, it brings a lot of liveliness, and also more attraction to the eye. You know kind of makes people wish they had their school decorated the way we do.”
