The Last of Us has been getting a lot of attention recently because of the HBO adaptation, so Wingspan thought it would be cool to look at the game it is based on, and why it is so memorable.

The Last of Us gamers play as Joel, a cold-hearted smuggler in the zombie-infested world, who is tasked by a group known as the fireflies to smuggle a 14-year-old girl named Ellie out of the quarantine zone. Joel is joined by a fellow smuggler named Tess. They don’t know why they are smuggling Ellie out (they later find out she is immune to the cordyceps fungus, so she can breathe in the spores and can be bitten and not be infected).

In the effort to not reveal everything about that game, that’s the only plot point of the game that will be given, but The Last of Us has an amazing story, and the relationship between Joel and Ellie as the game continues is some of the best in any video game.

The Last of Us gameplay has a mix of fun and scary, as players are required to listen carefully and not make noise. This component makes the game feel much more intense when you hear a footstep or a voice. The intensity is cranked up when a player encounters the infected, and they must stay quiet and not get spotted. It’s super scary and one of the best parts about The Last of Us.

The Last of Us is a 10/10 game. From the world-building to the relationship between Ellie and Joel, everything about it is amazing. Currently, the game is a PlayStation exclusive, but there are plans to release the game on computers this March.
