After a relatively successful string of District 10-5A matches, the tennis team will come head-to-head with its most formidable challenge this far in the season, playing the Independence Knights Tuesday at 4 p.m.
The Knights were ranked as the #9 10-5A team in the preseason and for head tennis coach William Davis, two things will need to happen for the Redhawks to win.
“[We need to] put in our best effort and continue to improve,” Davis said.
However, senior Purnoor Sharma thinks there’s a related factor that will be a bigger influence on the match’s outcome: self-confidence.
“I’m a little more nervous this time because this team is definitely stronger than the rest that we have gone against,” Sharma said. “We need to improve on just getting the point started. I think a lot of our players get into the mindset of tensing up and overthinking before the point even starts, which messes us up.”
