Dropping to 0-2 on the season, the football team lost 35-2 to the Greenville Lions on Thursday at Toyota Stadium.
“That was a tough one to lose because we thought we were pretty evenly matched,” head football coach Matt Swinnea said. “Our guys played hard, but our lack of depth took its toll on us, particularly as the game moved into the fourth quarter.”
Not giving up was the lesson on Friday, as sophomore Connor Johnson believes the team’s attitude changed too quickly.
“I’m upset, mainly because I think we could have done much better,” Johnson said. “After they scored the first touchdowns, team energy really just went down and there was no more hype.”
Despite the score, Swinnea believes there was success on the field.
“The game was actually much closer than the score indicated,” Swinnea said. “We moved the ball well, we created some turnovers, and we were in position to make plays. We simply need to do all more consistently.”
