The Redhawk football team lost to Frisco 35-0 on Friday in a weather delayed contest that left the team 0-1 in District 6-5A play.
“Obviously, we are disappointed in the result,” head football coach Matt Swinnea said. “However, it was physically a really tough night for our guys. With limited numbers, it is difficult to play in those hot conditions at a consistently high level. The delays didn’t do us any favors either.”
With a storm rolling in late Friday night, the game was delayed multiple times due to lighting.
“It kinda threw us off a bit,” junior Landon Reygadas said. “You’re like in the zone, and then they tell you to pause, and you get out of the mindset to play. But we still kept going.”
But for Swinnea, what the score didn’t show was the teams’ determination.
“I’m proud of our guys for staying in the fight,” Swinnea said. “I’m proud of the guys for wanting to play football. It is a physically grueling sport that involves dealing with real pain and discomfort, and I’m proud of the continued effort they give day in and day out against tough odds.”
