Taking on the Wakeland Wolverines (1-2 in District 6-5A) on Friday at Kuykendall, the Redhawks football team hopes to break their losing streak.
“Well, we’ve got several guys back, but we’ve also lost a few,” head coach Matt Swinnea said. “So I think ultimately, this week, it’s about finding some good chemistry and trying to end the season our last four games on a high note.”
The common challenge every week for the Redhawks has been injuries. With this, the team has had to change their offensive strategies.
“If you went back to what we were doing beginning of the season and look at what we are doing now in a lot of ways, it’s completely different,” Swinnea said. “I mean, we were running multiple tight end sets and being very run-oriented. We are still running the ball, but out of a ten personnel and spreading the ball.”
Some previously injured players will be returning for Friday’s game, including quarterback junior Jacob Nickell.
“I am pretty happy to come back just because I miss playing, and being out sucks,” Nickell said. “Just hope to play good and do my job and hopefully end up with a win.”
