The football team heads into their bye-week 0-7 (0-5 District 6-5A Division 1) looking to make some corrections after a 56-0 loss to Wakeland on Friday at Kuykendall Stadium.
“We had hoped it to be a little more competitive, but Wakeland is a really good team and they jumped out on us early,” head coach Matt Swinnea said. “It always comes down to honestly little things assignment wise we could have done better.”
The Redhawks were close to scoring in the second quarter, sitting on the two yard line when an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty kept the team from advancing to score.
“I mean we got the ball down there right in score position,” Swinnea said. “Unfortunately, we had a bad penalty on the 2 yard line, but you know I thought we had a chance to go with some momentum into halftime but it just didn’t work out.”
Heading into the bye-week senior Trey Laurent wants to take what he learned in the Wakeland game and look to apply it.
“I learned from the Wakeland game that in order to win these last three games we’re going to have to work as a team and hold each other accountable, so that we’re able to execute on a high level,” Laurent said. “I think the bye-week is a great opportunity to work on the basics of football and increase our knowledge on the game, while also perfecting our game plan for Cenntenial.”
