Contrary to what many people believe, Donald Trump does not believe that all immigrants are drug dealers and rapists. It is just that most people, for some reason, only like to focus on small parts of what political figures are saying, and their words are often taken out of context. When Trump says things like that, people like to focus on those words and only those words, but not the context in which they were spoken.

Trump was not talking about all immigrants, just the illegal ones. It is not the legal immigrants who are drug dealers and rapists, it is the illegal ones. It is the illegal immigrants who need to be monitored. And honestly, I tend to agree with him. I, like Trump, have nothing against legal immigrants. What I am against, however, is illegal immigration.

I agree with Trump’s stance on immigration almost all the time. Almost.

The point at which our views start to diverge a bit is when it comes to deportations. Trump has stated time after time that when he gets into the White House, he will begin deporting all of the people who are living here illegally.

First, I want to set something straight: there is nothing ethically wrong with deportation. If someone were to come up with a realistic plan for mass deportations, I would be all for it. But that’s just the problem. It’s the practicality of it that makes no sense. There is no way to do it.

There is simply no realistic way to go about deporting six million people. If you disagree with me, I have a challenge for you. I want you to think up some practical way to track down, round up, and deport all of those people back to their home countries. And remember, It would have to be approved by Congress, too. Can’t think of any ways to make this happen? Exactly.

It’s the same thing with Trump’s wall. Trump wants to build a wall all across the U.S./Mexico border in order to stop illegal immigrants and terrorists from entering our country through Mexico. That is not the impractical part. The impractical part is that Trump somehow wants to get Mexico to pay for the wall. That is the impractical part. There is no possible way that Trump can force Mexico to pay for the wall.

It is for this reason that people like Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders do not have my support. They have some great ideas that, if implemented, could truly benefit our country. But there is just no practical way to go about putting their plans into place. Politics should be based on what can happen, not what should happen. Deportation sounds great. Free college for everyone sounds great. But when it really boils down to it, it’s not possible.
