In order to gain a new perspective on the school, principal Stacy Whaling created the Principals Council, where eight students across campus get together to discuss what is happening around the school.
Whaling was inspired to create the council from the two district councils in Frisco.
“There are two different actual district councils, one is the superintendents council and one is an advisory council for the district,” Whaling said. “Basically they have got these great committees outside of the campus to kind of learn about what is going on in a broader sense of the district.”
The council lets her understand campus from a student’s eyes.
“So I have taken kids of a diverse group of students that way I can get a pulse of the campus and what is happening, what the temperature is, and things that all kids across the campus enjoy, would like to see changes in, and they are kind of like my sounding board for what is going on across campus,” Whaling said.
One member of the council, senior Emory Williams, enjoys meeting with the administration and discussing leadership skills.
“In each meeting we get together with Mrs. Whaling, Mrs. Fesco, and Mrs. Zambiasi to discuss multiple different topics about Liberty and the school district and what’s going on around FISD,” Williams said. “We discuss things we can improve with the school and with our individual leadership skills.”
For Williams, being a part of this council is an honor in itself.
“I wanted to be a part of this because Mrs. Whaling asked me to join,” Williams said. “I was honestly very interested and felt honored in a way because there’s only 8 of us on campus who are a part of this.”
