Being an Area Technology Specialist means dealing with a lot of student Chromebook issues. But students could save themselves some issues with a simple update.
The Frisco ISD One For All program allows all students to have a Chromebook laptop, and with over half of the students on campus using one, it is important to for students to keep their Chromebooks up to date to avoid any technology problems.
If not updated, problems can occur, according to Digital Learning Coach Nicole Lotz.
“It can be as easy as like if your teacher’s using a lockdown browser, the locked down browser won’t load or Youtube won’t load,” Lotz said. “I just actually had a teacher come in today that her YouTube wasn’t loading and it was because her Chrome wasn’t updated, so there was some bug or fix that needed to be run in the update.”
To Lotz, keeping Chromebooks updated is the best way to keep computers bug-free.
“The point of updating your Chromebook is so that you have the most up-to-date information from Google on their security settings and any kind of bug fixes that they’re finding in their software,” Lotz said.
To properly update Chromebooks, students can go to the settings icon on the bottom right corner, type update in the search bar, and click check for updates.
