Girls’ basketball hopes to solidify district championship

It’s round four of the 5A State Playoffs and the Redhawks take on the Bulldogs of McKinney North. The girls come in ranked second in the state on a 17 game win streak, while the Bulldogs sit eighth in the state.

Hoping to lock in their hold on first place in District 10-5A, the girls’ basketball team needs a win over 3rd place Heritage to keep their perfect district record in place. The Redhawks travel to Heritage and face off against the 8-3 Coyotes at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.

“Beating Heritage and executing well is our goal,” junior Christal Webb said. “Making sure we play defensive well, making sure we run the plays on offense right, talking and communicating.”

A win Tuesday would mark the 10th time in the past 12 years that the Redhawks have earned at least a share of the district championship.

“We want to go out and be able to put our best foot forward,” head coach Ross Reedy said. “Now the cherry on top of all of it is that with a win tonight, we would be able to claim our district championship. In considering our district and what’s come out of our district, the kind of noise they’ve made in the playoffs throughout the region and state, that’s quite the accomplishment.”
