Redhawks golf teed off the start of their spring season Tuesday, with the boys and girls playing at Tour 18 Match Play and Spring at the Lakes, respectively. Although the girls took 2nd place in their tournament, sicknesses on other teams slightly derailed competition for the boys.
“We couldn’t do match play because some people were sick on [the nine] different teams so everybody didn’t have five players,” assistant coach Adam Davidson said. “[Instead], we just played 27 holes. This time of year we’re playing to figure out what we can work on to get better. Yesterday was just getting our feet wet and getting back into competition, trying to figure some things out so we can peak in April at districts. We were competitive but that’s more of an evaluation tournament that we use as a tool. Tour 18 is a hard course even when it’s in prime condition, and right now everything is dead and dormant so it’s just a hard time to play in general.”
For sophomore Gabriel Fast, what was essentially extra practice time allowed him to reflect on his strengths and weaknesses.
“I usually play well at the tournaments, but my weakness is my weakness is my old habit of bending my wrist making some of my shots slice and go right,” Fast said.
