It’s not the playoff run they were looking for, but one that served as a learning opportunity. The Redhawks boys’ soccer team took on highly decorated Wakeland High School in the first round of 5A playoffs. Holding Wakeland to 0-0 for the majority of the first half, the guys ultimately lost 4-0 to the Wolverenes.
“At the start, we kept up the intensity very well, but the game eventually slipped and was mostly controlled by Wakeland,” junior David Verduzco said. “Wakeland are a solid team, so we knew we had to keep a good work ethic the whole game, and we did decent at that
This was the boys’ first time making playoffs in two years. With that in mind head coach Evan Mcgee is proud of the boys’ accomplishments this season.
“I really enjoyed the season,” Mcgee said. “I think the just the group of guys that we have was such a dedicated and like almost family tight group. I think that we really took the next step that this program needs, with the way that they worked this year, and the things that they were able to do.”
At the end of every sports season seniors share their farewells. Senior Rylan Lee reflects on his time as a Redhawk athlete.
“Playing for liberty all these years have taught me how to perform under pressure given by teammates and coaches,” Lee said. “I enjoyed making memories with my closest friends.”
