Helping lead the girls’ track team to a 2nd place finish in the District 10-5A meet, senior distance runner Sydni Wilkins and other members of the Redhawks track and field team are competing in the Area Championship Thursday at Kuykendall Stadium.

Redhawks track and field is competing at the District 9/10 5A area meet at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at Kuykendall Stadium

“We have a good group going out to area so we’re expecting great things,” assistant coach MyKayla Alfred said. “We’re expecting to get those same kids out to regionals. They put the work in, so it’s time to shine.”

The top four finishers in each event will advance to the Region 2-5A meet on April 19.

Among those competing is sophomore basketball stand-out Jacy Abii who is competing in shot put and discus on Thursday.

“Hopefully I get first or second or at least a place,” Abii said. “I’m definitely aiming to get to regionals.”

Running the 4×4 relay, junior Evan Bullitt is excited for this experience.

“We know it’s going to be super competitive but we have a good chance if we really give it our all,” Bullitt said. “Win or lose it’ll be a fun race for sure and a memorable experience.”
