The Redhawks tennis team continued it preparations for the April 25 district tournament, by taking part in a tournament at Heritage Friday.
According to assistant coach Neil Grobler, even though the outcomes weren’t up to par with the team’s expectations, the tournament helped prepare them for districts.
“Though the results were not exactly what we hoped for, it provided our players proof that they can compete with top competition,” Grobler said. “The tournament’s structure made for a very grueling day on the court for our players. They fought hard and battled until the very end. I know this will set us up for a productive week of practice and motivate our players going into the district tournament.”
For sophomore Avani Chinwan, the single-elimination style of the tournament made it especially challenging.
“This tournament was different from my previous ones because this tournament is single-elimination, meaning that if you lose your match you’re officially eliminated,” Chinwan said. “Usually, we’re guaranteed at least two matches so it’s easier to stay in the tournament and compete.”
