Early voting for school board members in places 6 and 7 began Friday and ends on April 30.
“Early voting is a fantastic opportunity to vote at your convenience before the official election day,” AP Government teacher Amanda Peters said. “I really appreciate it because it means you can avoid the rush and long lines, making sure your voice is heard even if you’re busy on election day.”
In both open seats, there are no incumbents running for reelection. Melanie Barrios-Jones and Keith Maddox are running for Place 7, while Sherrie Salas and Fred Kaiser will be running for Place 6.
There are many voting locations all around the county, but the closest to campus will be the Frisco Fire Station #8 on Rolater.
All members of the community are encouraged to show up to the polls and cast their vote.
“Unfortunately, these elections don’t get as much attention, which is a shame,” Peters said. “When voter turnout is low, we risk having our schools led by a board that might not fully represent our community’s diverse needs and perspectives. Every vote adds strength to the board’s mandate to truly serve our children.”
Voting early allows voters to get their vote in before the election date, which is May 4.
