Redhawks returned to campus on Monday after summer break, officially marking the start of the 2024-25 school year.
For some rising freshman, the first day of high school can be nerve-racking.
“I’m nervous that school’s starting,” freshman Justin Hung said. “I’m sad summer is already over but I’m looking forward to the school year.”
Conversely, for rising senior Sophia Hung, Justin Hung’s sister, this year is especially important and exciting.
“Going into senior year is kind of sad because I feel like I really am growing up,” Hung said. “But, I want to enjoy senior year and all the memories that come with it.”
Not only that, but Sophia is also excited about attending school with their sibling.
“I am excited that my little brother is going into my freshman year since I get to spend one last year of being in the same school as him,” she said.
Her brother agrees.
“My sister is the only good part of high school,” Justin Hung said.
Though returning students have experienced the first day of high school before, some feel different this time around. The first day of school went better than expected for senior Addison LeBlanc.
“The first day of school was reassuring,” LeBlanc said. “I had anxiety about it, but it went very well and I enjoyed it. It has been unique to the other first days I’ve had at Liberty because it was on a Monday instead of a Thursday. Also, I’ve been the one directing students where to go, instead of being directed, which is almost nostalgic somehow.”
