The Redhawks tennis team returns to The Nest empty-handed following a tough 16-3 loss to Independence after winning their last match against Heritage 10-9.
“[We are feeling] good [despite the loss],” assistant coach David Sands said. “They were a tough team, second in state.”
With the loss, the Redhawks fall to 2-3 in District 11-5A. That leaves the team in a 5th place tie with Emerson with only the top four schools advancing to the playoffs. However, the Redhawks have already played each of the top teams with matches against Memorial and Emerson all that remain.
Sophomore varsity player Ethan Tjong is proud of the perseverance that the team showed during the match.
“We fought really well,” Tjong said. “But we lost at tiebreak.”
