It was a normal day at work for junior Owen Higgins on Sunday.
A cashier at Little Elm’s Krab Kingz restaurant, across the street from Little Elm Beach, Owen was working the front counter when NBA superstar Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans walked in.
But Owen didn’t immediately know who it was.
“At first I didn’t know who he was until I saw my co-worker super excited and said to Williamson ‘I have your jersey on my wall’ after that I knew he was a famous athlete,” Owen said. “After my co-worker took his order I asked him who he was and he explained who he was.”
Not the biggest sports fan, Owen knew enough to know that a picture request was a must.
“He was a very cool dude and was excited to take pictures with us,” Owen said. “We walked outside the restaurant and took pictures right after he ordered.”
From there, Owen sent his dad, journalism teacher Brian Higgins, a much bigger sports fan, a text.
“He asked me if I knew who Zion Williamson was, and I instantly replied yes,” Brian said. “It seemed super random for him to ask me that but then when he said Williamson was eating at Krab Kingz, I got excited for Owen because Williamson is one of the best players in the NBA.”
Leaving Williamson alone beyond the picture request paid off for Owen.
